Edge-corE Enterprise Class L2/3/4 Switches at Affordable Prices

Oakdale, MN, January 8, 2007Small Tree Communications, a leader in networking and storage solutions, will, effective immediately, sell and support Edge-corE® brand managed Layer 2 and Layer 3 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches in the U.S.A. and Canada. Edge-Core switch products are ideal for the demanding needs of digital content creation and enterprise networking customers, with emphasis on full line-rate performance, scalability, QoS, and security.

Edge-Core, a division of Accton Corporation based in Taiwan, has established a large market share for its Ethernet based products in the rest of the world during the past three years. Small Tree will offer Edge-corE Layer 3/4 core network switches and Layer 2/3 switches for edge applications or standalone use in small and medium businesses. The stackable Layer 2/3 switches are the key emphasis, providing solutions with advanced features, outstanding performance and lower cost.

“We are delighted to make Edge-corE brand switches available for the first time in the North American market,” said Derek Robb, Small Tree Vice-President of Sales and Business Development.  “Edge-corE is a highly respected brand in Europe, South America and Asia and I am certain that our customers here will be delighted with their quality, performance and value.”

Small Tree will initially offer 6 Edge-corE switches. For maximum bandwidth in backbone networks, the Edge-corE ES4625 and ES4649 are intelligent L3 Gigabit Ethernet stackable switches offering 20 or 44 10/100/1000 Base-T copper ports plus four combo (RJ45 or SFP) ports and an optional I/O module for 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink. The ES5508 is a full function L2/L4 10 Gigabit Ethernet standalone switch configured with eight 10GBASE XFP ports allowing optical or copper connections. The ES4626H is a 24 port 10/100/1000 Ethernet stackable L2/L3/L4  switch with 20 10/100/1000 Base-T ports plus four combo ports on the front panel, optional 10Gb XFP uplink modules and two stacking ports on the rear panel.  It combines the speed and low cost of a Layer 2 switch with the ability to route at Layer 3. The ES4524D and ES2548D provide cost-effective Gigabit Ethernet switching for bandwidth-intensive networks that do not require 10GB uplink capability.

All of the Edge-corE switches above offer full line speed performance, support for Jumbo frames, dynamic 802.3ad link aggregation and redundant power supplies. They have been extensively tested in configurations using Small Tree multi-port GbE and 10GbE cards and Small Tree Storage-over-Ethernet products.

“We are pleased to partner with Small Tree to supply Edge-corE brand products to the North American market,” said June Chao, Director of Edge-Core.  “Their expertise in high performance networking is recognized throughout the world and, together with their resellers, they will be able to provide a high level of sales and technical support for our products.”

Small Tree will demonstrate the Edge-corE products at MacWorld in San Francisco, January 9-12, 2007.
