Cards Provide Much Needed Bandwidth for Leading Film Restoration Firm

New York, NY, November 15, 2006—FairField IT Group, a Macintosh specialist group providing large-scale storage support, recently installed a 6-port Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) card into the data center at  Cineric, the film industry’s finest restoration and preservation facility.  The card, from Small Tree Communications, the high-speed interconnect leader for Apple Mac OS X, was used to help address substantial daily bandwidth issues Cineric’s editors were facing.

“When you’re writing half-Terabyte files, you’re going to get caught up with bandwidth problems,” states David Osler, partner at FairField IT Group.  “Cineric has five workstations (two Apple Final Cut Pros, two da Vinci systems and one Discreet Lustre) that required dedicated Gigabit Ethernet to improve workflow efficiency.  With Small Tree’s 6-port Gigabit Ethernet card, we were able to direct Gigabit runs to the primary workstations, alleviating the bottleneck in the network.”

Located in New York City, Cineric is respected throughout the film industry for its craftsmanship and technical innovation.  Having developed unique restoration processes, the company has restored more than 200 films, including “Jason and the Argonauts,” “The Birds,” “American Graffiti” and “The Caine Mutiny.”
